Boost your brain power with these

You may choose certain foods to prevent bloating, avoid inflammation, and get glowing skin—but what about boosting your brain power every time you fill your plate?
The relationship between diet and brain health—from how to sharpen your mind and memory to starting Alzheimer's prevention super early—has been getting lots of attention lately, and Rebecca Katz, MS, author of the new science-based recipe book The Healthy Mind Cookbook, is at the forefront of the movement.
"It used to be that scientists thought that as you grow older your brain cells die," says Katz, who's also the executive chef at Food As Medicine and founder of Healing Kitchens Institute in Bolinas, California. "Now, we're actually seeing that our brain cells can regenerate—which is largely based on how we eat and exercise. If you're eating a whole foods diet, of course you're taking care of your body, but there are actually certain foods that are very important for the brain."
Want to know what they are? These are the 11 foods Katz says you should be eating to strengthen your mental muscles now.
Lentils
According to Katz, lentils are full of brain-friendly B vitamin folate, which helps keep your mind sharp as you age, thiamin and vitamin B6, which give you more focus and energy, iron, which is important for cognitive functioning in women during childbearing years, and zinc, which is said to be a memory booster.
"Silicon Valley has promised us that, someday, little nanobots will act like tiny microprocessors in our brains, helping to make us smarter," Katz says. "I say, why wait? We already have a teensy food that does that. It's the lentil, the vegetable kingdom's version of a Lilliputian flying saucer."
Mint
Katz loves mint because it's a good source of vitamin A, which can help boost learning skills and increase brain plasticity, vitamin C, which is said to protect against cognitive decline, and for other, unexpected reasons.
"There are fascinating studies out there about how the scent of mint affects brain functioning," Katz says. "In one study, the aroma of mint helped boost alertness and memory. In another, it helped test subjects perform better on basic clerical skills, such as typing and memorization. Just the scent of mint has been shown to increase alertness." Maybe start by taking a big whiff of your toothpaste in the morning?
Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds, AKA pepitas, deliver generous helpings of iron in addition to a mineral trio of potassium, magnesium, and calcium, which Katz says has shown to delay cognitive decline. "For this reason, I call pumpkin seeds nature's smallest antidepressant," she says.
Cauliflower
"Some foods just look like they should be good for the mind," Katz says. "Take cauliflower. Kind of like walnuts, it visually reminds you of the brain. And sure enough, cauliflower is a brain-boosting superstar." It's a great source of vitamin K, which is said to keep your mind sharp as you age and boost memory, as well as folate.
"It also helps in liver detoxification, and a happy liver—the body's vacuum cleaner for toxins—makes for a happy brain," she adds. Not to mention cauliflower makes a killer grilled cheese.
Sardines
Even if eating them isn't totally appealing, your brain loves these tiny fish. In fact, Katz refers to them as "Prozac in a can," since sardines are loaded with vitamin B12, which has been shown to boost memory and ward off depression. They're also a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, which help keep your brain sharp, and are high in niacin, which can boost mental energy.
Almonds
According to Katz, almonds may help your body fight inflammation in ways that can boost mood and slow the mental decline that comes with age, as well as raise levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which is "associated with fewer down moods and less depression," she says. Which is awesome since they're also delish.
Beets
"Beets are a brain food of the first order," Katz says. "They are high in nitrites, which have been shown to increase blood flow in parts of the brain related to executive functioning, have got lots of vitamin B9, which may aid cognitive functioning and delay a descent into dementia, and are rich in carotenoids, which may help boost brain functioning and stave off depression." Remember to order a salad the next chance you get?
Cashews
"Cashews are a great source of two brain-boosting minerals, zinc and magnesium," Katz explains. "Zinc is important because low levels of the mineral are associated with depression, and it may improve memory as well, while magnesium has been shown to help better regulate sleeping patterns and may improve learning skills."
Cashews also contain the B vitamin thiamin, which Katz says has been linked to more mental energy and better moods in women, plus vitamin E, which in low levels is linked to poor cognition. Not to mention their creamy, amazing taste.
Cinnamon
"Cinnamon delivers some anti-inflammatory benefits, which may well boost overall brain functioning," Katz explains. "It also unleashes in the brain some special proteins called neurotrophic factors, which can help the brain generate new neurons and keep old ones healthy."
Similar to mint, researchers found that the aroma of cinnamon can improve memory and focus on cognitive tests, says Katz, so don't forget to sprinkle a little on your coffee in the morning.
Dark Chocolate
"The cocoa that gives dark chocolate its haunting, addictive flavor is loaded with the memory-boosting antioxidant power of flavonoids," Katz says. "In two recent studies, cocoa consumption has been linked to higher scores on cognitive tests. Dark chocolate is also a boon to the cardiovascular system, and a healthy heart helps keep the brain sharp."
Be warned, though: Katz says that milk seems to interfere with the body's ability to access the power of flavonoids, so these benefits don't apply to milk chocolate, and it might even be best to steer clear of milk while you're enjoying dark chocolate.
Ginger
"Many women can experience a loss of mental sharpness as they get into middle age, but ginger has been shown to help keep that from happening," Katz says. "Another study on postmenopausal women showed ginger boosting memory skills and ability to focus." Stir-fry for dinner, it is.

The full Game of Thrones: Season 6 trailer has finally dropped

Game of Thrones: 9 Reveals from the Season 6 Trailer

The Iron Islands, Vaes Dothrak, Bran's visions, and more. Here's what the new Game of Thrones: Season 6 footage told us for certain.

The full Game of Thrones: Season 6 trailer has finally dropped, setting the internet ablaze with piercing and potent imagery involving boats, horses, the Night's King, and many, many shots of Jon Snow's lifeless body. Like, we get it. He's dead. So very dead.
And as with many a trailer, we have questions. In fact, considering that this season of Game of Thrones is the first not to easily correlate to any published Song of Ice and Fire book, the "unknown" now looms large and casts a formidable shadow. But instead of raising a bunch of "What's that?"s and "What if?"s, let's hone in on what the trailer actually confirms for us. The actual, (mostly) irrefutable information we get from it. Sansa and Theon survived the drop. Davos is in mourning. Melisandre has doubts. Thant sort of stuff. And much more.
So here are 9 things the Game of Thrones: Season 6 trailer confirms for us...
More Flashbacks
The show gave us its first flashback last year with a brief Cersei prelude, but this year it looks like we'll be getting young Ned and some big battle moments...

SSZ7oelwvgp7
Yup. Guy in the front looks pretty damn Ned-like. But we get it. This is still somewhat speculate-y. So here's Exhibit B...

CCkVCU5Bbzl9
That be Targaryen armor. And that doesn't exist anymore. So this all signs point to this being a glimpse into the past. So are there more flashbacks? You bet your butts.
Return to the Iron Islands
While Season 6 isn't following any particular book, there are still book elements from A Feast for Crows and A Dance of Dragons that were left out of the show. And a lot of that stuff dealt with the Greyjoys back on their rotten, jagged islands. And while we can only guess as to what's going on here (and with all the brooding shots of Pilou Asbæk as Euron Greyjoy)...

RfmxBgiTROeN
...we know for sure that Iron Island antics will be a big part of the season.
Yara, Y'all
As an extension of the previous entry, Yara will be back. Which one could assume since she's a Greyjoy. Though she's also a Greyjoy we've followed outside the particular, peculiar Pike goings-on.

vWLCFvexd8az
It also appears Yara's found someone to help her forget just how cold, damp, and miserable her entire family is.
Vaes Dothrak is Back
Not only does Daenerys not get a warm welcome befitting a "Khaleesi" (or a "Breaker of Chains," "Mother of Dragons," etc), but she's trudged back to the Dothraki capital, Vaes Dothrak. Which, as you might guess, does not score very high on Yelp.

oYDxcISkgRNC
Sansa is Warm and Safe
Not that anyone thought Sansa and Theon fell to their crippling deaths at the end of last season's finale, but this shot (and the ones of Theon) confirm that they're okay. And that Sansa has been properly clothed. And placed inside someone's keep. And treated well enough that she doesn't look entirely depressed and forlorn. Not entirely.

fK71LZSYclLc
Bran's in Deep S***
First off, Bran's back. He was gone all last season, but now the psychic Stark has returned with a beefed up storyline and and a sensible haircut.
Next? Bran's having what we presume are visions -- his ability to walk seems one big giveaway here -- of the Night's King. Last seen having a "Come At Me, Crow!" stare-down with Jon Snow. And, dream version or not, if you see that frosty fiend, you're not having the best day.

UZv2zWBFrOwt
Good ol' Twincest
We can only speculate as to how Cersei feels upon hearing of her daughter's poisoning at the hand of Dorne, but apparently she doesn't blame Jaime for it. Well, not enough to stop them from engaging in their old favorite pastime of brother/sister face mushing.

tZqzW0rWM82J
Jorah the Explorer
Being overly, and perhaps creepily, familiar with Daenerys' scent, Jorah manages to locate Khaleesi's breadcrumb ring in the middle of dense grass.

XSOaH5K2T57s
Let's just hope it contains some sort of tracking devise or connects to a homing beacon. Because it's unlikely Jorah can Toucan Sam his way all the way to Dothrapolis.
Margaery Repents
This moment creates a lot of questions, for sure, but just on its own merit we see Margaery extending her hand out to the High Sparrow, looking for mercy.

xlRVz409s7Ep
Does this signal a new alliance? Does it, essentially, turn Tommen against Cersei (like the trailer seems to suggest with its editing)? That's all up in the air, but what we do know is that Margaery's sure as hell ready to get out of that dank, rank cell and make amends for all her sinning. Or, at least, go through the motions involved with repenting.

In practically every area, the S6 and S6 Edge excel. The S6 Edge is not only an excellent device, but breaks new ground with its gorgeous dual-edged display.
More: 5 Reasons To Buy The Samsung Galaxy s6 Edge
Its Exynos 7420 chipset comfortably beats out most of the competition in speed tests, and its real-world speed is eye-wateringly fast. The 2K Super AMOLED 5.1-inch curved display provides vibrant colours and reaches an incredible level of brightness. Similarly, the S6 Edge’s 16MP camera with a new f1.9 lens is, quite simply, excellent: its rich colours, instant shutter speed and sharp detail make it comparable to the best smartphone snappers of 2015.
But, as I said, the S6 Edge practically excels in every area. The most frustrating drawback of Samsung’s flagship is its questionable battery life. In its crippling obsession with weight loss, Samsung trimmed down the S6 Edge’s battery – in comparison to the S5 – which obviously means significantly shorter lasting power.  And, of course, there’s the furore over the missing expandable storage.

Battery size: 3430 mAh
Camera: 23MP (Rear), 5.1MP (Front)
Platform: Android with Sony UI
Features:  4K display, fingerprint sensor, and quick battery charging (Quick Charge 2.0)
The world’s first 4K display on a smartphone. Someone had to do it and Sony was the first one to cross the finish line. In that 4K display is a resolution of 2160 x 2840, with a ridiculous 806 pixels per inch. Although little content is actually displayed in 4K – in order to save battery – but the 4K footage that’s available looks astonishing. Fortunately, typical HD content is upgraded by Sony’s X-Reality engine that’s also used in its TV range.

When it comes to the camera, Sony went back to the drawing board and atoned for previous mistakes by making the best smartphone camera of 2015.  The 23MP sensor picks up an incredible level of detail, has a fast 0.03 second autofocus, reduced quality loss zoom and good low light performance (a feature that escaped previous Xperia handsets). Add to that a waterproof design, expandable storage, a reasonably quick fingerprint scanner and you have a very capable handset.
The Xperia Z5 Premium is not without some flaws. In ploughing all its efforts into the 4K display, Sony has neglected the software, which, with Android 5.1 and a Sony UI, is no different to the previous model. The battery life doesn’t reach the dizzying heights of two-days without a charge either (no Xperia device has since the Z2, despite what Sony claims), which is unsurprising considering the screen technology.

Price: from $749
Display: 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 pixels (401 ppi) IPS LCD
Battery size: 2750 mAh
Camera: 12MP (Rear), 5MP (Front)
Platform: Apple IOS 9
Features: 3D Touch, 4K video, and full HD display
In an untypical Apple fashion, the iPhone 6S Plus is larger and heavier than its predecessor. In typical Apple fashion, it’s not really noticeable.
So why the extra width and bulk? The answer lies in the iPhone’s new taptic engine, which powers the iPhone 6S Plus’ biggest feature: 3D Touch. For the uninitiated, 3D Touch brings an extra dimension of control to the iPhone’s display, allowing users to register soft and hard presses on the screen. It’s a smart addition that genuinely enhances the iPhone experience and isn’t the gimmick I thought it’d be. There’s also an improved 12MP camera that shoots 4K footage, as well as a stellar battery life: the iPhone 6S Plus is one of the longest lasting smartphones of the year.

Is it worth buying? If you’re an iPhone 6 Plus owner, probably not. There aren’t enough shiny new things here that warrant further indebting yourself for. If, however, you’re coming from an older iPhone, you’ll be impressed by the leap in technology.
Galaxy Note 5

Price: $696
Display: 5.7 inch 1440 x 2560 pixels (518 ppi) quad-HD Super AMOLED
Battery size: 3000 mAh
Camera: 16MP (Rear), 5MP (Front)
Platform: Android with TouchWiz UI
Features: wireless charging, S Pen stylus, fingerprint sensor, 4K video and Samsung Pay
Perhaps a controversial choice, given the backlash the Galaxy Note 5 received from some loyal long-time Note users. There is, however, no denying the Note 5’s excellence. With a slick and premium design, the Note 5 brings the Note range into adulthood.
The Note 5 represents the best that Samsung can offer: one of the best displays in the industry, an excellent camera, wireless charging, Samsung Pay, slimmed-down OS and a feature-packed stylus- just remember to insert it in the right way.
The lack of a removable battery and expandable storage might be forgivable on the Galaxy S6, but on a device that’s marketed as productivity tool? Less so. Also, I’ll repeat, don’t insert the stylus backwards.

Battery size: 3450 mAh
Camera: 12.3MP (Rear), 8MP (Front)
Platform: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Features: fingerprint scanner, USB-C fast charging, and Android Marshmallow pre-loaded
The best smartphone of the year? I certainly think so. The Nexus 6P’s shortcomings are few and far between. Who’d have thought we’d be applauding Huawei planting its flag at the top of the smartphone summit?
Where do I start? The camera is fast, sharp and has good low-light performance. Design-wise it’s all-metal body oozes premium (I think the camera bump adds some character) and its 3450 battery comfortably lasts a full day. Camera, design and battery: this is the smartphone trifecta.
The 6P owes a lot of its success to Android Marshmallow, Google’s most accomplished and clever OS yet. The redesigned app drawer, Google Now on Tap, improved battery management and new app permissions are all fulfilling their full potential in a device that proudly runs stock Android.
Like I said, there’s little to complain about in the 6P. But the lack of wireless charging is a disappointment, especially when it charges via the non-universal USB-C. So, you know, keep that USB-C charger close when you’re out and about.

Camera: 20MP (Rear), 5MP (Front)
Platform: Microsoft Windows 10 mobile
Features: Continuum, Windows 10 mobile, wireless and fast charging, removable battery, liquid cooling, and expandable storage up to 200GB
The Lumia 950 XL brings good, unique, ideas to a smartphone market beleaguered by identikit-syndrome. Features like Continuum (which allows users to plug their Lumia into a display and use it like a PC), Windows Hello and bundled Office 365 for mobile makes the Lumia a ready-to-go phone for business.
There’s also a very capable 20MP triple LED Flash PureView rear camera that takes sharp pictures out of the box and has an impressive suite of manual controls.

The obvious major issue is the lack of apps – the ‘app gap’ – needs to be fixed. Microsoft, for its part, is trying to bridge the gap by making it easier to port Android and iOS apps to Windows Phone, but that hasn’t shown any meaningful results yet.
The device itself suffers from some annoying bugs. While this is to be expected with a new OS, but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating. Check out my full review here.

Platform: Android with LG UI
Features: 2K display, high-grade camera, removable battery, fast and wireless charging, and microSD slot
With a bright and crisp quad-HD display, a camera with exceptional manual controls and a unique, leather-clad design, the LG G4 was a breath of fresh air in musky cloud of identikit smartphones.
The only downsides was how quickly the removable leather back wore: it ended up looking quite shabby. The device also slowed down quite a bit after a few months of use.

Battery size: 3000 mAh
Camera: 21MP (Rear), 5MP (Front)
Platform: Android
Features: faster charging, microSD, front-facing speakers, cheap, and non-removable battery
The Moto X Pure follows Motorola’s tradition of cheap, powerful and nicely designed smartphones. There’s a quad-HD display here, a 3000mAh battery that can power up to 10 hours of battery life after 15 minutes of charging and the all-important stock Android, which means faster Android updates. All for a very respectable $399.
Motorola’s raison d’etre has always been to build stock Android devices that perform way better than their low price suggests (if you ignore the Nexus 6). The Moto X Pure is no different.

Battery size: Non-removable Li-Ion 2150 mAh battery
Camera: 13MP (Rear), 4MP (Front)
Platform: Android 6.0 with HTC Sense
Features: BoomSound, fingerprint scanner, all-metal unibody
Where the M9 fell down, the A9 stands tall. The 13MP camera is significantly better than the M9’s and includes optical image stabilization, plus some extra functionality in the camera app. It also runs a paired-down version of Sense Home, which is much closer to stock Android, meaning faster upgrades and less bloat.
Recommended by Forbes
What HTC did take from the M9 was the excellent audio playback: BoomSound returns and there is now also support of supports 24-bit audio output with the A9’s built-in DAC, as well as the chance to upscale 16-bit tracks. There’s also that all-metal unibody build that caused such a fuss and a rapid fingerprint scanner on the face of the device.
Beware, though, this is still a mid-range device. Which means not to stellar battery life and a slightly below par performance. Also, given its mid-range status, HTC has bizarrely priced the A9 exceptionally high.
HTC One M9+

Battery size:  2840 mAh
Camera: 20MP (Rear) 4MP (Front)
Platform: Android + Sense Home
Features: Ultra pixel front-facing camera and rear camera with secondary depth sensor, fingerprint scanner which supports AliPay
The M9+ from HTC is not only a bigger and better version of its predecessor, the M9, but also more exclusive: it’s currently only available in China.
Whilst the M9+ has the same 2840 mAh battery and 3GB of RAM as the M9, there are some key differences: a larger 5.2 inch display, with a better quad-HD resolution; a 20MP camera with secondary depth sensor; an ultrapixel front-facing camera; and a fingerprint scanner like the A9, which supports the Chinese mobile payment system AliPay.
Honor 7

Price: from $430
Display: 5.2 inch 1080 x 1920 pixels (424 ppi)
Battery size: 3100 mAh
Camera: 20 MP (Rear), 8 MP (Front)
Platform: Android
Features: dual-sim card, microSD slot, fingerprint scanner, and voice control
Another underdog in the running for this year’s best smartphone. Despite its pricetag, the Honor 7 is a solid competitor. Highlights include the slim all-metal design, 1080p display, the (in-house developed) HiSilicon Kirin 64-bit chipset,  which, with 3GB of RAM, means the device is pretty much on par with the LG G4 in terms of performance.
The device also has some quirky features that make it stand out: you can take a screenshot by double-tapping the display with your knuckle, while screen re-sizing is easily done by swiping left to right. There’s also the touch-based fingerprint scanner which worked nicely, aside from when in my pocket.
There are, however, some features that do verge on gimmicky: the device’s camera is inundated with modes such as ‘Good Food’ and ‘Beauty Shot’, when more time should’ve been spent developing the camera itself. But, if you’re into taking selfies and pictures of your avocado on toast for Instagram, this may not be a problem- the camera is still decent.

Platform: Android with Blackberry UI
Features: fast battery charging, optional wireless charging, physical and digital keyboard, and microSD
Who’d have thought we’d be mentioning a Blackberry as one of the best smartphones in 2015. But, the beleaguered company’s work on the Priv cannot be ignored. A nicely crafted design, with a well-concealed keyboard, makes the Priv a pleasure to use. But the best bits happen in the OS.
Blackberry has beautifully dovetailed Android with smart features like the Blackberry Productivity Tab, Hotfix and enterprise-managed updates. But watch out for that laggy performance and erratic battery life.
LG V10

Price:  from $599.99
Display: 5.7 inch 1440 x 2560 pixels (515 ppi) quad-HD IPS primary display, plus secondary 2.1 inch 160 x 1040 pixels display
Battery size: Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery
Camera: 16MP (Rear) 5MP (Dual Front)
Platform: Android with LG UI
Features: second screen, dual-front camera for wider selfies, 4GB RAM, MicroSD and 4K video
The headline news is that the LG V10 has two displays, one for notifications and one as the main screen. The dual-screen concept works surprisingly well because your movie watching or gaming isn’t interrupted – perhaps this is a feature we’ll see in LG’s 2016 flagship line. But, with that extra screen, comes the extra cost. The V10 is one of the more expensive devices on the list at $599.
LG has a penchant for the weird and wonderful. Its most recent stab at flipping everything on its head? the dual-screen LG V10.
With its DuraSkin, the V10 is slip-resistant and drop-resistant. Good thing too, considering the V10 has a lot to smash, with a primary 5.7 inch IPS display, and a secondary 2.1 inch display on top (for pinning shortcuts, status notifications, and personalisation). The idea is that when you’re using the device, notifications will pop up on the second screen, keeping the main display clear. Which is really useful for when you’re watching videos or playing games. As we’ve come to expect from LG, the display itself if typically sharp and bright.
The multifaceted nature of the V10 also extends into the camera: there’s a dual front-facing set of lenses, ideal for the selfie fiends amongst you. At the rear is a 16MP camera with laser auto-focus, optical image stabilization and an LED flash, which provides some pretty sharp snaps.
An expensive, but arguably the most unique, offering from 2015.

Another mega-cheap handset with reasonably impressive specs from OnePlus. A phone for the budget-conscious, who aren’t troubled by its slightly sluggish performance, or the lack of NFC and fingerprint sensor. But, for $249, you’re getting a very nicely designed iPhone 4-like smartphone that’s more than capable.

Battery size: 2700 mAh
Camera: 12.3MP (Rear), 5MP (Front)
Platform: Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Features: 4K Video, fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port
The smaller and more affordable choice of Google’s latest offerings. At 5.2 inches, the Nexus 5X is another budget-friendly powerhouse.
The Nexus 5X isn’t simply a decent phone for its price-range: its 12.3 MP camera (the same snapper in the more expensive Nexus 6P) is one of the best on the market and performs exceptionally in low-light. It’s also super-light, runs stock Android Marshmallow, has USB-C and a rapid fingerprint scanner. Google’s knows the secret formula for making a near-perfect cheap smartphone.
But, as with the Nexus 6P, the lack of wireless charging and inclusion of USB-C means you’ll have to be clever about when and where you charge-up until USB-C is more widely adopted.

Real Madrid Advances in Champions League but Has Reason to Worry

Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid, left, scored the first goal Tuesday in a 2-0 victory over Roma in the Champions League. Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals for a sixth straight year. Credit Paul White/Associated Press

LONDON — Real Madrid needs to win the Champions League the way a capsized crew needs a life raft. Its team, one of the most expensive ever assembled, won at home, 2-0, to complete what looked like a rout of Roma over the two legs.
Looks can be deceiving.
Though Cristiano Ronaldo scored again for his 90th goal in 123 Champions League appearances, the evidence is that the good ship Real Madrid is less of a force and less complete than Barcelona or Bayern Munich, the two most impressive teams in this year’s tournament.
For more than an hour Tuesday in Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, it was Roma that created the better chances.
Created, and squandered.
If only Roma had a finisher remotely like Ronaldo, it would have comfortably wiped out the two-goal deficit it dug for itself after losing the first leg. “I’m asking my team to do the impossible,” Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti had said before the game in Madrid. “The way they are training allows me to ask that. But we mustn’t be weak mentally.”
Roma has excelled in Italy this year — it has won seven straight in Serie A — and Spalletti easily identified the obvious flaw in Madrid’s lineup. He told his players, particularly the speedy Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, to get behind Madrid’s left back, Marcelo, and create havoc there.
Salah did that part to perfection. Marcelo is adventurous at going forward and linking up with Ronaldo, but the Brazilian has barely any inclination to fulfill his defensive duties.
Madrid Manager Zinedine Zidane, a marvelous player who now is a rookie coach, appeared happy enough to pick Marcelo. Why? Perhaps because what Zidane best knows and loves about soccer is attacking and exploiting the opponent’s weakness. He did it par excellence as a Real Madrid forward. And earlier this week, one of his players, RaphaĂ«l Varane, said, “He is a coach who loves the game and loves attacking football. He likes movement, moving the ball around quickly and playing higher up the pitch.”
Marcelo, then, is a definite Zidane pick. But the risks are obvious: On Tuesday night, Salah (twice), Edin Dzeko and Alessandro Florenzi were in good position to score, one on one, against the Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
Only once did the goalkeeper need to show his agility to make the save. The other three shots went wide. And Spalletti’s face on the sideline showed that he feared that once such opportunities came Real Madrid’s way, there would be no such wastefulness.
Madrid, to be sure, was carving out its own openings: Statistics had Real having 37 shots on goal to Roma’s 12. But that statistic didn’t tell the whole truth.
Most of Real Madrid’s attempts came from long range, against a well-organized double line of Roma defenders. And most were either off target or so tame they were mere catching practice for Roma keeper Wojciech Szczesny.
When he was finally beaten, it was by Ronaldo, of course. A week or so back, when some in Madrid’s media were prematurely calling time on Ronaldo’s career, his response was to tell them to look at the statistics because they never lie.
Ronaldo was booed by a sizable portion of the crowd Tuesday, but in a handful of minutes, between the 64th and 68th, he scored the first goal and set up the other by James RodrĂguez.
Neither finish was a work of art. RodrĂguez’s shot went straight through the legs of the goalkeeper, and Ronaldo’s was tapped in from close range, although it did require him to think and move quickly to reach the low cross by Lucas Vázquez.
Vázquez is that rarity, a player actually produced by the Real Madrid youth system. The 24-year-old had to wait a long time for his breakthrough season in Real’s white, and he spent last season at Espanyol, the other club in Barcelona. Vázquez’s role on Tuesday was to come off the bench and replace Gareth Bale — recently returned from injury — once he tired.
After linking up with Luka Modric, Vázquez danced past a defender and demonstrated that he had the talent to shine, if his club allowed him to show it.
Ronaldo now has 353 goals in 336 games with Madrid, and no one would deny that he is a superstar. Yet, the Madrid fans boo him. The older supporters look beyond the goal totals and want less hubris. They saw it in previous stars like Alfredo Di Stéfano and, later, in Zidane.
And Tuesday, the crowd that harangued Ronaldo gave a standing ovation to a man who never played for them. As the game neared its end, Roma sent it its longtime magician, Francesco Totti.
Now 39, Totti first wore Roma’s distinctive purple and golden yellow when he was 16. Real once bid for him, but Totti always was a one-team kind of a guy.
He can no longer inspire his beloved team to victory, as he once could with instinctive and almost insolent guile.
But as he made a cameo during his 595th game for Roma — most likely his last appearance at the BernabĂ©u — Totti was given the ovation denied to the man who scored the game winner, Ronaldo.
Spalletti reiterated after the contest that his team needed, somehow, to toughen up on the mental side of the game, something Totti never had a problem with.
But by fielding Totti at the end, he demonstrated that Roma is also woefully short in what Madrid has in abundance: the ability to score goals. And Real, which has no chance to win its league and has only the Champions League left to play for, advanced to the quarterfinals for the sixth year in a row.

5 Things You Should Do Every Morning If You Want to Be Healthy

In those first years out of college, I struggled with the transition into "real adulthood." Adulting is hard! But as I started to make health and self-care more of a priority, I realized that I was lacking a solid morning routine. Fast-forward to today, and the routine I've established has helped set the tone for a healthy day, every day. Aside from the universal tip of "eat breakfast," here are the top five things that have helped me rise and shine; try these for a morning of wellness!

Oil Pull

Before you start saying "oil pulling is so 2014," hear me out. I grind my teeth at night, and I know I'm not alone in this. In addition to the possible oral health benefits, oil pulling exercises a stiff jaw to alleviate pain, forces you to get up 20 minutes earlier, and acts as a chemical-free mouthwash.

Stretch

While I oil pull, I stretch. I take this time to relax, meditate a bit, and warm up my body for the day. If I have time or get up early enough, I go to yoga or do a few Sun Salutations in my room. I know I'll be in a desk chair all day, so I try to carve out some time to always get a good stretch session in.

Drink Lemon Water

A room-temperature glass of lemon water has tons of health benefits: alongside improved hydration, you'll get a vitamin C boost for glowing skin, a metabolism boost, and a mood boost.

Care For Your Skin

I don't have an extreme 11-step Korean skin care routine, but I do have a pretty solid lineup for my skin. I cleanse my skin with Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel and my Clarisonic, then tone, apply serum, and moisturize. Twice a week, I use a peel, and three times a week, I use a retexturizing scrub. And you know what? I never knew my skin could be this good! The byproduct of this is that I now look forward to waking up (don't judge me) to go through my skin care routine.

Take Vitamins

I take B12 for energy, omega-3 for mood and muscle health, and vitamin E for hair, skin, and nails. If I'm drinking my vitamins in a shake, I use Vega One powder mixed with some coconut milk. At the risk of sounding like your mom, take your vitamins!

This Taylor Swift/Ed Sheeran Mashup Is the Most Intense Love Song You'll Ever Hear

From Seventeen
Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran are two of the greatest songwriters of this generation, partly because they know exactly how to hit you right in the feels. When their music is combined, well, forget about it. You know it's going to make you reach for the tissues.
Louisa Wenderoff and Who Is Fancy, two singers from Nashville, teamed up for this original mashup of Taylor's "Clean" with Ed's "Photograph." The two songs are completely different at first glance - "Photograph" is about keeping an old love alive, while "Clean" is about moving on from a lost relationship. But somehow, Louisa and Who Is Fancy make it work. It's tough to tell where one song ends and the next begins. Together, the two tracks blend into an emotional ballad about love and loss.

Transform Your Life With The Power of Positive Thinking

Transform Your Life With The Power of Positive Thinking

Can you guess what the most successful and happy people think about all day long?
The answer is quite simple…
Healthy, happy people think about what they want, and how to get it, most of the time. Developing a positive attitude can truly change your entire life.
When you think and talk about what you want and how to get it, you feel happier and in greater control of your life. When you think about something that makes you happy, your brain actually releases endorphins, which give you a generalized feeling of well-being.
As a result, you develop a positive attitude.

The Most Important Quality

Based on many psychological tests, happy people seem to have a special quality that enables them to live a better life than the average.
Can you guess what it is?
It’s the quality of optimism!
The best news about optimism is that it is a learnable quality.
You can learn to be a more confident and optimistic person and have a more positive attitude by thinking the way optimists do.
By the law of cause and effect, if you do and say what other healthy, happy people do and say, you will soon feel the same way, get the same results, and enjoy the same positive attitude and experiences that they do.

Happy People Find Good in the World

Optimists seem to have different ways of dealing with the world that set them apart from the average.
  1. First, they keep their minds on what they want, and keep looking for ways to get it.  They are clear about goals and they are confident that they will accomplish them, sooner or later.
  2. Second, optimists look for the good in every problem or difficulty.  When things go wrong, as they often do, they say, “That’s good!”  And then set about finding something positive about the situation.
What we know is that, if you are looking for something good or beneficial in a person or situation, you will always find it.  And while you are looking, you will be a more positive and cheerful person.

The Power of Positive Thinking

Optimists seek the valuable lesson in every setback or reversal.  Rather than getting upset and blaming someone else for what has happened, they take control over their emotions by saying, “What can I learn from this experience?”
Resolve today to develop a positive attitude toward yourself, the people around you and your life.

Decide To Be Happy

Resolve from now to see your glass of life as half full rather than half empty. Happy people give thanks for the many blessings in life rather than worrying or complaining about the things they do not have.
Assume the best of intentions on the part of everyone around you.  Most people are pretty decent, honest and are trying to do the very best they know how to.  When you look for something good in their words and actions, you will almost always find something.
Finally, resolve to be cheerful, no matter what happens.
Looking on the bright side is most important when things go wrong.

Your Positive Attitude in Action

It is easy to to be cheerful when everything is going according to plan.  But, it is when you encounter unexpected setbacks and difficulties that you demonstrate to yourself, and the world around you, what kind of an attitude you really have.
Make sure that it is a positive one!
Thank you for reading my blog about the power of positive thinking and developing a positive attitude. I hope it will inspire you to see the good in others and help you to improve your life.
