Top Nigerian Producers Who Turned Singers & How They Fared

Music is a very lucrative business across the world and it sure gives the singer a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment that comes with being a celebrity singer.
Several Nigerian producers have wanted to be a part of the glamour, money and fame that comes with being a singer, so they joined the singing bandwagon.
As a result of this decision, some of them now have some hit songs to their credit. However, they are not all on the same pedestal.

1. Davido

Although, David Adeleke has never been credited with any hit for other artistes, Davido, as he’s fondly called has gotten quite numbers of hit songs to his credit. He used to produce and once produced a single for Dammy Krane titled ‘Open Pooner’.
‘Damiduro’ and ‘Back When’ were the debut singles O.B.O needed to lay claim to fame in the Nigerian music industry. Davido is not really a great singer but any song he voices turns a hit.
 

2. Duncan Mighty

Port-Harcourt based singer, Duncan Mighty, controls his world and this has greatly reflected in his work as a producer and singer.Aside producing for other artistes, Duncan Mighty has exhibited his lyrical prowess with the acceptability of his popular songs.


 

3. Samklef
Samklef used to be one of the top producers in Nigeria at one time and produced several hit singles for Wizkid which include almost all the songs on Wizkid’s first album.
Apparently dazed by his success on the music console, Samklef tried his vocal prowess by dropping the popular song titled Noni. Although, a couple of other young artistes who featured in the song earned him a successful outing as a singer, he’ s obviously better as a producer.

 

4. Cobhams

Cobhams is one of the most respected producers in the country today and the genius of Cobhams can’t be overemphasized as any song he produces turns gold.
Apart from lacing the rhythm of the super hits of Asa, Charly Boy, Darey Art Alade, Roof Top Mc among others, the only music producer with third eye, has severally proved his lyrical prowess.

 

5. Jesse Jagz

Jesse Garba Abaga, popularly known as Jesse Jagz, is a Nigerian hip hop recording artist. In April 2015, he re-signed with Chocolate City after leaving the label in May 2012 to establish his own imprint known as Jagz Nation.He started out as a producer, but he didn’t want to settle for less so he delved into music. Jesse Jagz has a few hits to his name and is definitely one of the most intelligent musicians we know today.


 
6. Don Jazzy
Don Jazzy is undoubtedly the biggest producer in Nigeria right now, but it appears the Mavin Boss is more of a singer these days as he’s been featured on a number of songs these days.
Besides having a solo track on one of D banj s CDs, he usually does backs-up for D banj, D Prince, Dr. SID and K-Switch. Don J even featured in one of Tiwa Savage s new songs. He always makes the good use of his baritone voice around songs but lacks the flow of a good singer.

 
7. Paul Play
While his dexterity as a music producer is been questioned by critics, the scion of late music legend, I.K Dairo, has made his name as a successful singer cum producer.Besides producing most of his hit songs, Paul Play’s power lies in his lyrics as a singer.

 
8. Terry G
Terry G is definitely one of Nigeria’s most consistent singers. Although, he was first known as a producer before he became a singer.
He’s worked with several artists and has produced several hit tracks. The singer cum producer also boasts of several hit songs to his name as well.

 

9. OJB Jezreel

Give it to the Jigger man, OJB Jezreel has been there and done much in the Nigerian music industry.
OJB has not only produced hit albums for Tuface Idibia, KC Presh, Jazzman Olofin and Ruggedman among others, he has also dazzled all with his sweet voice. He has quite a number of hit songs to his credit.

 

10. Flavour

 Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as his stage name, Flavour is one of the exceptionally talented Nigerian musicians we have today. He not only does great music but infact produces as well.70 percent of the hit songs on his debut album which sold several thousands of copies was produced by him.

 11. Tekno
Tekno is definitely one of the top acts to reckon with in the music game these days as he’s been dropping his songs back to back.
Tekno is not just a singer but used to be and is still is a producer.Tekno Miles has been playing piano since the age of eight w hen his father enrolled him into a music class and later learnt how to play other instrument like drums, and guitar. He produced several songs including Ice Prince’s hot new single titled ‘Boss’.


 

12. K-Solo This is one of the hit makers, who introduced street vibes, and Timaya, Klever J among few other artistes will always be grateful to Solomon Oyeniyi a.k.a K-Solo, for given them the beats that shot them to stardom.
