Daily Habits That Help You Look Younger

Benjamin Franklin once said, “In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” And while that’s a pretty bleak statement, it is true in the fact that aging is inevitable. Everyone gets older – some are just better at hiding it or, better yet, fighting it than others. Here are a few daily habits that you can adopt to help prevent the signs of aging.

Block the UV Rays
Sun exposure is a major thief of youth! It is tempting to try to get a touch of  tan and many people feel that tanned skinned is youthful. That may be true, but too much sun exposure can really do damage to your skin in the long run. And the wrinkles and sun spots on your skin are far less severe than the risk of skin cancer.
Did you know that there are foods that will help block UV rays? As my family has made the switch to more natural ingredients, we’ve started thinking of sun protection from the inside out.  By eating lots of leafy greens, red and orange fruits and veggies, cruciferous veggies, and Omega-3 rich fish, you can block most of the harmful UV rays naturally.  And if you’re going to be out for an extended amount of time, especially if you’re traveling and close to the equator, you’ll want to use sunblock as well.  Since most sunscreens contain toxic ingredients and endocrine disrupters, I highly recommend choosing a natural sunscreen!

Drink Lots of Water
Make an effort to drink the recommended 64 ounces of water a day, or more would be even better. Your skin is your body’s largest organ and the first thing that starts to show age. Skin needs water to stay hydrated, glowing, and to maintain the elasticity that is your body’s natural botox.

What Goes Inside Shows on the Outside
The foods that you eat not only determine your internal health, but they dramatically effect your appearance as well. Eating good fats such as those found in avocados and salmon are excellent for shiny hair and strong nails. Getting lots of micro-nutrients from green leafy vegetables and colorful fruits will help to keep your skin looking youthful.
Make sure to eat at least one serving per day of a food that is rich in antioxidants such as blueberries, leafy veggies, or green tea. Limit the amount of refined sugars and artificial sweeteners that you consume, and try to steer clear of processed foods as much as possible. Being mindful of what goes into your body will go a long way to the appearance of the outside of your body.

Nightly Facial Care Routine
It is important to create a good habit of a nightly skin care routine. I wish I had started this habit earlier.  I’ve seen a huge difference since I started using Nerium Age-Defying Night Cream. And don’t forget your neck and décolletage…especially if you’re a side sleeper! One of my friends pointed out how wrinkly I was and I was shocked how much my wrinkles improved!  The picture below was just 30 days of regularly using Nerium!

Also, make sure to moisturize at night AND in the morning! Dry skin is more prone to fine lines and wrinkles, so make sure your routine includes moisturizing your skin.

Relax
A major culprit of aging is stress! People who are often stressed and anxious not only look older and less youthful, but it also causes harmful internal effects as well! Try to get adequate sleep each night to feel well rested to tackle the stresses of each day.
When you find yourself in a high stress situation whether at work, home, or in social situations – take a step back when possible and take a few deep breaths. Then tackle the situation the best you can if necessary, or if possible, step away. Try to find hobbies that create peace and balance such as yoga or another type of exercise that you enjoy. Or find a relaxing place in your home or a nearby park to steal away occasionally with a good book or relaxing music.
Not only will these daily habits help to prevent the signs of aging to make you look more youthful, they will also help you to feel better and have a more youthful life. Have you found any daily habits that help you feel more youthful and energized?
